Matthew worked for a timber treatment company for 21 years, when known as Protim Solignum, Osmose and Koppers, as a formulation chemist, his role evolved to cover a number of different applications.
Subsequently in 2019 he founded Prenwell Consulting, to provide support for the timber, fire retardant & industrial formulation chemistry industries.

• Spent six years gathering robust fire test data to ensure the successful launch (and subsequent application expansion) of the only European leach resistant fire retardant for timber, Fire-X.
• Identified an opportunity with an independent wood institute which led to my involvement in the creation of the world’s highest timber building, Mjøstårnet.
• Created extensive dossiers of five fire retardants for approval by London Underground, the Wood Protection Association, WPA and the Structural Timber Association, STA.
• Exhibited a tenacious approach to overcome problems in order to deliver products that meet the required performance for fire retardant treated timber.
• Spent 10 years as the technical lead, launching and supporting a range of four fire retardant treatments within Europe and Asia: Fire-X, FirePRO, Frameguard and Frameguard II.
• Acted as both study sponsor and study director for validation of analytical methods and stability testing in line with the Biocidal Products Regulation.
• Actively researched wood modification processes and their potential effect on the market.
• Created a range of microemulsion and emulsion preservative products for the UK, Irish, African and Asian markets.
